About Us

The African Centre for Research and Information on Substance Abuse (CRISA) was founded in Jos, Nigeria, in 1990 as an Independent, Non-profit, Organization devoted to drug and alcohol research, prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

CRISA is registered at the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja, as a Non-Governmental Organization (limited by guarantee of the Attorney General of the Federation) and in the U.S as a Non-Profit Organization.

 

 
The specific objectives of the Centre are:

• To carry out and support research on all aspects of licit and illicit drug use and other lifestyle and health issues;

• To offer treatment and rehabilitation services for alcohol and drug use disorders;

• To serve as a clearing-house for state-of-the-art information on alcohol, tobacco and other drug use;

• To organize conferences, training workshops and seminars on substance abuse epidemiology, prevention and treatment;

• To provide regular information to researchers, prevention and treatment professionals, the public and media through the publication of pamphlets, newsletters, books and an academic journal;

• To engage in all other activities that may contribute to the promotion of healthy lifestyles, especially among African youth
