Introduction
Less attention has been paid to the use and abuse of licit substances (eg. alcohol and tobacco) in Nigeria than to the less familiar, often frightening, illicit drugs. Early studies of drug abuse were primarily on the effect of cannabis (Indian hemp) on mental health. Today, activities in the arena of drug abuse control have, to a great extent, been influenced by the anxiety over cocaine and heroin.
